Previously only one image could be added to a Tumblr photo post. While I was working on the improvements above, I spotted the opportunity to improve upon the Tumblr support a bit as well. I will continue to improve upon this in future updates. I’ve prioritized the feedback of many users and added the ability to resize, add images, view character count, and more. The addition of Mastodon support is a natural extension of the new Micropost Panel which was introduced in MarsEdit 5. This is a substantial update to MarsEdit 5, featuring all new support for the Mastodon publishing system, which is used to host a large number of independently operated Twitter-like microblogging services. MarsEdit 5.1 is now available on the MarsEdit site and on the Mac App Store. MarsEdit 5.1.1 is now available on the MarsEdit site and on the Mac App Store. This issue has been addressed and you can update either via “Check for Update…” in the app, or by downloading directly here. It gives you lots of functionality, a professional level of quality, responsive support, and (of course, this being indie software) a modest price tag.UPDATE: If you updated to 5.1.1 within a couple hours of my original announcement, you may have downloaded a version of the app that will not launch as expected. With nice bonus features like autosaving, Technorati tag editing, blog-specific image settings, support for Tumblr, and a speedy Flickr browser, MarsEdit is a great example of indie software done right. You get a rich editing interface for working with text (including HTML-free formatting tools and cool markup macros that save you from repetitive typing), but what makes MarsEdit really useful is its easy uploading tools, two-way syncing, AppleScript support, tight integration with Flickr, and compatibility with an impressive variety of blog services (including improved support for WordPress tags), text editors, and even photo management software (like iPhoto and Lightroom). MarsEdit makes blogging easier, letting you ditch clunky browser-based editing in favor of a full-featured, fully Mac-powered desktop editor-an editor that also lets you blog when you're offline.
